Helping Friends Move... Last Time

I helped a couple of my friends move last weekend, and boy, I think that’ll be the last time! I’m absolutely beat today, and have a bunch of scrapes and bruises to prove it. I’m moving apartments in a few months and was thinking of having friends help out, but now I think I’ll look for Chevy Chase MD mover that can help! My friends and I struggled with the bigger furniture pieces, and we realized that movers do this all the time! They have a system, and equipment. And we also realized that they can look at a door frame and know how to fit that couch through it, instead of our trial-and-error method. Yup. Movers it is.

Moving to other side of town

It seems almost impossible to move while you work full time and across town. My friend and I both work full time and usually get home around 6pm. We both work in Bethesda MD but live in Alexandria VA and have decided to move to Bethesda so the commute isn’t as long in the morning. Luckily, we found a moving company in Bethesda MD that helps us move on a tight budget, plus was able to work with us on scheduling. We were able to move 5 items that we would never be able to lift ourselves, for only $195! They moved our couch, television, dining room table, and both of our beds. Also once we got to our new apartment, they worked on an hourly basis and stayed longer than we thought we needed them! Unfortunately, some of our stuff wasn’t going to fit in our new apartment so we needed to store it somewhere while our parents took the trip to Maryland to come pick it up. This company allowed us to store it at their storage facility for $50 a month. We ended up moving a two bedroom apartment for less than $500 dollars and we couldn’t be happier. We now have a reliable moving company who also helps move people across the country too!

Tough Work Even for a Local Move

My friend is moving in to Bethesda, MD, and has been looking for a local moving company to help make the trip less stressful. It’s about an hour away from where she lives now. Her current plan is to rent a truck and move everything with a group of friends, but I think the amount of things she has is slowly dawning on her. She started looking for a moving company she could use both in her current town, and in Bethesda, to compare pricing. I’m with her on hiring a company; it’s hard work to do it on your own!

Downsizing

I was moving from Alexandria VA to Arlington VA and I needed to find a moving company in Arlington VA. My biggest concern was making sure that my things were packed correctly. I was packing for days and it seemed like I had barely made a dent in my things. Downsizing was going to be difficult, I already knew but moving from a 3 bedroom home to a 2 bedroom apartment, I needed to bring half as much stuff. I was looking to see if there were movers that would specifically help me with the packing aspect of moving and I couldn’t find anyone who would only help pack and provide labor rather than do the physical moving from one home to the other. Finally, after weeks of research and not much more packing done, I saw that there were a few companies who offered different kinds of moving options: they can help you pack, you can pack, and they can just physically move your things. It was a dream come true, I am glad that I didn’t give up researching companies for my big move!

Tough To Move In The Summer

Let’s face it summer is the hardest time to move. It’s so hot and sticky outside that it doesn't even matter if you're looking for a moving company in Arlington VA or in California! All you really want to do is hang out at the beach. My family and I are moving next month, so we’re in the process of finding a great moving company that will help us move in this terrible heat. We Googled mover Cape Cod, MA and found a great moving company. It looks like we’re going to be in good hands!

Final Moving Steps - Part 1

Over the next week, we will be rolling out some final moving tips in a three part series. Make sure you come back and stay tuned til the end!
-----------

Since you’re here we guess you’re in the final stages of your move. Congrats! Now time to get to the stressful - final checklist. Here are some important tips for making the last stages of your move go as smooth as possible. Use the list below as a checklist for getting things done before the move!

Three Weeks
1. Collect or transfer records, i.e. doctors, dentists, optometrists, veterinarians, lawyers, accountants, insurance carriers, banking institutions, pharmacy, investment companies, financial advisors, grocery store savings cards, safety deposit boxes, etc. - the list goes on and on!
2. Schedule a post move cleaning crew for your old home because the last thing you'll want to do after you move is clean your old place.

Two Weeks
1. Get rid of anything and everything you don't need or want. Drop things off at a local charity, give things away to family and friends, and return items you have borrowed.
2. Confirm pack dates and move dates with your moving professional.
3. Arrange professional disconnection of ice makers, gas dryers, antennae, cable etc.
4. If you have children or pets - arrange daycare for move day.
5. Ensure that packing materials are being delivered soon.
6. Start packing. It usually will take you 30 minutes a box.

One Week
1. Set aside cleaning supplies.
2. Minimize the number of perishables you buy for your refrigerator & freezer. You don't want to worry about that stuff on moving day.

3. Visit your local mover's website and read about liability insurance so you can make an informed decision on move day.

Our Son Is Moving Out!

It’s finally happened. Our son is moving out of the house! He moved home after college two years ago, and one of his friends finally decided to move in to the city and get an apartment. My son decided that was a great idea, and they found a place together. Only problem is that the apartment isn’t furnished! So, we need to get all of his things from our house here in Cape Cod down to the new place. Luckily, it’s still in Massachusetts, so we’ve been getting quotes from different moving companies, including a moving company in Falls Church VA. We’re not sure who we’ll go with yet, but we’re looking forward to this next chapter and finding some good Cape Cod movers in general!

So Much Stuff!

I was moving from Vienna, VA to Arlington, VA and I started packing up boxes only to realize that I would have to make more than 8-10 trips in my sedan to move all of my boxes there. I knew I needed to find local movers in Fairfax VA to help me move all of my things, but I felt so silly because it is such a short distance. When I called, I was slightly embarrassed and they reminded me that people call them to move down the street from their homes and while this would be a piece of cake, they’re the professionals! They helped me all day with packing, loading boxes, moving, unloading boxes and placing them in the right places.

Worst Part About Moving? Packing...

My least favorite thing about moving is packing. I actually just hate packing for anything. I've moved 3 times in the last 5 years, so as you can image, it’s not my favorite thing in the world. I feel like I always have to make tough decisions as to what I want and need to take with me to a new location. This time around, my fiance and I hired Movers from Bethesda MD to help us with the whole move. They came early and helped pack up things I had no interest in sorting through, and handled everything to unpacking in our new home. It was awesome, and I can honestly say I’ll never move without movers again.

Three-Floor Walk Up? No Problem

We were all packed, we had everything in boxes, we knew where things were, we packed up the car and then we realized… we have a lot more things than we thought. Thankfully we called movers in Arlington VA to help with the heavy lifting. It was worlds easier when they arrived to help us with everything that we needed. Our mattresses seemed heavier than we were and that posed a giant problem and getting those upstairs in our three-floor walk up seemed like a definite obstacle.  The movers seemed to navigate up the stairs with ease and we were so happy that we weren’t the ones to move those massive beds and frames. We had tried so hard to spend less money this time around and thankfully we were able to squeeze movers into our teeny tiny budget!
